The Fordham and Manhattan College men?s basketball teams met for a historic 100th time Wednesday with Fordham winning the battle of the Bronx 66-57.
The Jaspers? Devon Austin got it going early with a three-pointer for three out of his 13 points for the game. After a hoop and a foul, the Rams? Chris Bethel gave his team an 18-12 lead early on with a free throw.
The Rams were able to maintain a lead through the second half , but some good defense from the Jaspers enabled them to edge closer near the end.
With just four minutes left, the Jaspers were down by two. However, Fordham managed to pull it out in the end. Brenton Butler and Chris Bethel each had game-high totals of 15 points.
The two teams met for the first time in 1911. The Jaspers won a shootout over the Rams 20-19 and hold a 51-49 edge in the series.
