A new public art project in Fort Greene is honoring what many call unsung heroes.
Jasmin Chang is one of the founders of the project, known as "Community Heroes."
The project aims to find people behind the scenes in industries ranging from education to government and honor them for their work. Banners honoring them will be hanging for the next 11 months.
Organizers say they plan to take the project citywide.
Community Heroes, an initiative of Trellis, collaborates with neighborhood artists to create portraits of each hero. The exhibition opened on Saturday at Fort Greene Farragut Old Timers Day in Commodore Barry Park.
The artists who took portraits in the Commodore Barry Park edition include Ari Barnett, Diana McClure, Erin Lefevre, Gilda Caputo, Juquai McDuffie, Kevin Kim, Lauren Crothers, Liz Latty, Matthew Cylinder, and Zoe Smythe.
