A freight elevator fatally wounded a worker in Sunset Park Monday, police said.
Police said the 34-year-old male victim's midsection was crushed around 5 p.m. as he worked in a building on the corner of 53rd Street and 1st Avenue. The victim worked for a bed sheet company located in the factory, police said.
Investigators said there are no signs of foul play and they are treating the victim's death as an accident.
Workers said elevators inside the building are operated unsafely. They said the doors are often left open in between floors.
The company has yet to comment on the incident.
