Residents, domestic violence awareness groups along with the NYPD and elected leader gathered Tuesday to remember and honor a 37-year-old woman who was killed over the weekend in the Bronx.
Bjana James, a mother with two children, was found with a knife wound to her neck. Police say her boyfriend is the alleged killer.
He was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including manslaughter.
Those who knew her say she was a loving woman. People lit candles, sang hymns and released balloons. Amongst the crowd was Stephanie McGaw, the founder of We All Really Matter. McGaw is a domestic violence survivor who said she was infuriated when she heard about James’ death.
McGraw says more needs to be done to stop domestic violence.
