The new "rainbow cake donut" at Moe's Doughs Donut Shop in Greenpoint is the latest mouthwatering, multicolored sensation to rise in the borough.
Mohammed Saleh, who owns the Nassau Avenue shop, says the new offering was partly an accident. He says he mixed a few colors together, but when customers began referring to it as a rainbow, he refined the idea.
"You get a bit of the red velvet here, you get pistachio, that's another layer, you get the blueberry cakes down there, strawberry cake is a big flavor and of course the sour cream which is the big base to it," explains Saleh's son, Zeyad Saleh, who is also a manager at the store.
The Salehs say it's a great doughnut, but not to take their word for it. The reviews are glowing too.
"Best doughnuts in Brooklyn for sure, by far -- just amazing," says Parker Redford, of Greenpoint. "I mean the dough saints, the rainbow cake, all just the best."
