It's time to add a beach day to your weekend schedule because getting to Coney Island beach just got easier.
Starting Friday, you can get there by jumping on more trains than ever before, because a number of them are extending their service and adding a stop at the Stillwell Avenue subway station.
The G line is now extended 5 miles replacing F trains, which will be rerouted to run on the C line during the construction. You'll also see service changes on the C and E lines. Signs were posted letting commuters who normally take the F train between Bergen Street and Coney Island Stillwell Avenue know. Commuters will have to take an alternate route and instead board the G train for most of the weekend.
Brianna Morales says she grew up going to Coney Island and remembers how long her commute on the subway with multiple transfers would take her prior to this new route being added.
"It takes an hour, but it was always full and crowded because a lot of people love Coney Island," Morales says.
Fran Coyle is a Coney Island native and says giving more people the chance to get here is coming crucial and part of the New York City experience.
"It is a jewel of the East Coast," Coyle says.
Commuters say it's quick seven-minute walk from the Stillwell Avenue station to the Coney Island beach.
