A newborn baby that was found abandoned in Crown Heights is in stable condition today thanks to the help of a Good Samaritan.

Amina DeLeon, who works as a physician's assistant in a neo-natal intensive care unit, is being credited with helping the child that was discovered on a stoop in the vicinity of Rogers Avenue.

DeLeon first encountered the baby and mother, Shoshannah Muhammad, Wednesday night at a local bodega. She says she urged Muhammad to go to the hospital after noticing the newborn was bluish in the face and still had the umbilical cord attached. When the mother refused, DeLeon called 911 to report the incident.

Later, the baby was found by paramedics and revived. The newborn is currently listed in stable condition.The district attorney's office now says it will not prosecute the mother because she followed the guidelines of New York's safe haven law when leaving her child behind. Officials say that the mother left her baby with someone she knew.
