A Brooklyn man is being honored for his heroic acts that are believed to have saved the life of at least one police officer earlier this year.
On March 25, five people were injured after an unmarked cruiser -- which was chasing another vehicle -- collided with a van carrying auxiliary police officers in East New York.
Good Samaritan Juan Lopez, a construction worker who lives nearby, ran barefoot to the crash site and pulled one of the officers out of his vehicle. Soon after, it burst into flames.
Lopez was honored by Public Advocate Letitia James and by his union for his heroism at a ceremony on Thursday.
Lopez says that if he could repeat the act in order to save a life, he would.
