Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a new law to help protect students from cyber-bullying.
The law requires schools to take three different steps to prevent cyber-bullying. School districts must take action in any case that happens on or off-campus; school districts must put proper protocols in place to deal with bullying; and schools must fulfill training requirements on identifying bullying and harassment.
Bronx State Sen. Jeffery Klein pushed to criminalize bullying, but that measure was left out of the law's final draft.
The law goes into effect next year.
