Gov. Kathy Hochul was joined by Mayor Eric Adams and other elected officials for the first meeting of the new Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns.
The group includes law enforcement representatives from nine states in the Northeast working together to stop the flow of illegal guns. The initiative comes as the governor extended the gun violence state of emergency.
A major focus of the task force, Hochul says, will be to find out where the illegal guns are coming from, where they are going and how to stop them.
Adams says New York City has become "a sea of violence." He is currently working on his blueprint to end gun violence, which includes gun checkpoints and increasing police patrols.
