Swimming in the East River may be one step closer to reality for Bronx residents, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul's new plan.
Gov. Hochul announced support for a plan to build a floating swimming pool in the river. The plan envisions a self-filtering swimming pool shaped like a "plus" sign.
She says a demonstration version will be tested this summer with the plan for an actual swimmable pool scheduled to be open to the public by summer 2025.
Gov. Hochul also announced a proposal to build more swimming pools and hire more lifeguards across the state.
