Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday that she is not closing any schools, despite a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
Parent advocate Farah Despeignes says parents are nervous as New York COVID cases skyrocket and in-person learning remains the only option for city public school students.
Hochul plans to keep schools open and avoiding shutdowns with the "test to stay" policy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is allowing this initiative - which is for children who are exposed to COVID-19 but aren't showing symptoms.
UFT President Michael Mulgrew says city teachers are prepared to handle any curveball.
Dr. Brenda Anosike, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, says that parents have to stick with what has worked - mask wearing.
It's up to each school district whether they want to go the "test to stay" route or simply quarantining with any close contacts.
