One of the unions representing health care workers in New Jersey is objecting to Gov. Phil Murphy’s new requirement that health care workers get the COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.

But the governor continues to defend the move. He says that he believes that the booster requirement will not exacerbate health care worker staffing shortages that are currently happening in the state.

"Staffing shortages are a concern, clearly. This is not a step we take lightly and it's another way to answer that it's quite surgical given all the other communities of workers in the state,” Murphy said. “And we want to work with our labor unions to do this in the best way possible."

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Joe Biden’s vaccination mandate for health care workers does not violate the Constitution.
