Gov. Kathy Hochul released numbers showing transit crime is down, one year after implementing a place to improve safety on the subway system.
According to her office, major transit crimes are down 29% and arrests are up 71% year to date.
This comes after the governor announced a five-point subway safety plan, which included measures including installing cameras throughout the system, increasing police patrols on subway platforms and trains and installing new protective barriers on some subway platforms.
The plan also provided funding to install LED lighting in all subway stations to increase visibility and expanded mental health partnerships.
