Repairs on a Gravesend park that were scheduled to be completed two years ago have just now begun, and some residents are wondering why it took so long.
Artificial turf fields, benches and landscaping are some of the improvements made to Calvert Vaux Park.
The project was supposed to be completed in 2014, but there is still more work to be done.
Councilman Mark Treyger says the space is in decrepit condition and that the Bloomberg administration made a promise in 2007 to transform the park, but had never followed through.
The Parks Department says it is in the process of designing a field house complete with public restrooms.
The department says if everything goes as planned, the design would be approved in April. Construction could take anywhere from a year to longer.
