A group of Greenpoint business owners are working to bring some holiday cheer to the neighborhood this season--raising thousands of dollars to continue the tradition of putting up holiday lights.
The large, bright lights that will illuminate over Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint every year, will soon shine bright once again. It is a decades-long tradition that Peter Pan Donuts owner Donna Siafakas says stopped at one point.
"People on the avenue took over, two or three store owners, and they would collect and put up the lights every year and then they retired, and for a while we had no lights and it always bothered me. So, one year, I said I'm going to put up lights,” said Siafakas.
This year they launched a GoFundMe, raising more than $24,000.
