More than 20 businesses are located inside the old factory at the corner of West Street and Greenpoint Avenue. They have until Nov. 30.
“If everything is going to be torn down for the next big thing what will be the character of the area," said Russell Adler, the owner of Flintts Mints.
Some, like Pet Supplied, have secured a new location, but other businesses, like Flintts Mints, are unable to justify the high cost of rent.
“For a similar space, similar size we've seen rent for $9,000 to $15,000, and here we pay less than $3,000," says Adler.
Then there's Tomas Martin Jewelry, whose owner says the store won't be moving out on Nov. 30.
“We’re going to be here until the new year, we got a bit more time, it’s holiday season," said Tomas Martin.
Several business owners say the building has been purchased by Jacob Kohn, of Jay Group, but we were unable to confirm that with city records.
