Ground was broken Thursday on a new firehouse for the FDNY's Rescue Company 2 in Crown Heights.
The members of Rescue Company 2 have been working out of a firehouse built in the 1800s. Not only will the new location on Sterling Place be able to fit multiple trucks, but the members will now also have the ability to do rope work inside.
The state-of-the-art building is designed to maximize energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and conserve water. They will also be able to conduct twice as much training.
The entire project costs about $32 million. Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2018.
