The men's center at Medgar Evers College in Crown Heights is being accused of race and gender discrimination. Medgar Evers College created the Male Development and Empowerment Center three years ago. The center is aimed at recruiting male students, who currently make up approximately 28 percent of the student body. The New York Civil Rights Coalition is filing a complaint with the federal Department of Education. The group alleges the center does not allow women or students who aren't black to attend. Officials from the college stand behind the center saying it is not discriminatory. They also say the center works closely with the school?s women?s center.
