Authorities say several cars have been stolen in broad daylight over the past few weeks, sending a warning to drivers in the city.
Police say several people in a black sedan lightly bumped the back of a 2017 gray BMW sedan on Oct. 27 in East New York. The 40-year-old driver of the BMW went out to take a look, then two people exited the black sedan and held the victim at gunpoint, police say.
The group split up and left in both vehicles, leaving the victim behind. The NYPD say this is just one of four incidents around the city.
Police believe the same people stole another car in East New York just a few days before on Oct. 21, targeting a 52-year-old in a 2017 Ford sedan. No gun was used, but the thieves allegedly beat up the victim and stole his cellphone along with his car. The group is accused of stealing two more cars in Queens on Oct. 15 and Oct. 19.
The NYPD is asking anyone with information that might lead to arrests to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
