Local leaders in East New York say more needs to be done to protect some of the area's landmark buildings.
A group called Preserving East New York says that many buildings deserve protection from being demolished by the city.
"The goal is to get the city to recognize that these are historic properties, that as they are moving forward with their very important housing plan to keep in mind that a neighborhood already exists here," says Simeon Bankoff, of the Historic Districts Council.
The group is hurrying to get the city to preserve landmark-worthy buildings as a possible rezoning of the area to build affordable housing looms.
