? A public interest group warns Brooklyn parents that while playgrounds may be fun, they?re not always safe for kids.
The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) surveyed several Brooklyn playgrounds and found that the Fort Greene playground posed five hazards, like having equipment that is too tall and inadequate padding to break falls. The group says falls account for 80 percent of playground injuries. NYPIRG also found that a Prospect Park playground had peeling paint.
The city says local playgrounds are nationally recognized for having safe equipment. Many parents support that statement, but others disagree.
