A group of Brooklyn residents took to the streets of Bedford-Stuyvesant Thursday to offer what they call grassroots outreach to the community.

The group, started by a woman and calling themselves "Men Talk," encouraged voter registration and creating a community for those who might not have anywhere else to turn.

The group has been meeting for almost two years, working on creating a place where underprivileged men can go to learn about housing, health care and educational resources.

"It's not anyone who works for any part of government, just people coming together that really care about the community," says founder Sharmaine Byrd.

Men Talk handed out flyers Thursday, hoping to get people to attend their first community meeting on Saturday, July 14.
