The Guardian Angels have stepped up patrols in Coney Island after an increase in gang violence.
The increase in patrols comes after a 16-year-old boy was attacked near Luna Park on Easter Sunday.
A video of the attack circulated on social media and caught the attention of police who arrested five people so far.
Guardian Angel members tell News 12 they saw gang members entering the area last Sunday, and had a feeling something was going on.
"We're civilians, volunteers but we travel in groups of four or more. Obviously, were not just eyes and ears, we are not just reporting crimes to the police, which we will do. We will physically intervene, will break up fights and disputes, we will make citizens arrests," Guardian Angel Curtis Sliwa says.
Those who live in Coney Island say they are very grateful to see the Guardian Angels out and about on the streets, looking out for their safety.
The Guardian Angels are also calling on police to step up patrols and security in Coney Island.
