Volunteers with New York Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, in partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, hosted a “Wear Orange” event Saturday in Brooklyn.
The event aimed to honor the lives of those affected by gun violence and elevate gun violence prevention efforts nationwide.
New York Moms Demand Action says gun violence kills 120 Americans every day.
Organizers say they wear orange to represent their call to end gun violence. The significance of the color comes from hunting — it’s what hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves from getting shot.
Volunteers say they want to make their voices heard and the first step in making that happen is showing up. News 12’s Julia Joseph joined survivors, activists, and the community as they gathered in Brooklyn Heights.
