The city's Health Department released its diagnosis of health in Brooklyn communities Wednesday.
Some of the more pressing issues are cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The city's community health profile of Brownsville shows the average life expectancy is 74 years, which ranks the lowest in New York.
The study also found that about 40 percent of adults in Brownsville drink one or more sugary drinks a day. Officials say water and juice are healthier.
The report broke the borough into 18 districts and examined diverse issues like housing, HIV, smoking and access to healthy food choices.
