Health educators have launched a campaign aimed at improving the diets of children in the Bronx and the rest of the city.
The campaign is being led by Health Corps, a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering students to make healthy choices. Health Corps coordinators say it's hard for residents in low-income communities to get access to nutritious food.
"They want to eat healthy," says Nicholas Koppleperry, of Health Corps. "They're interested in it, but there's no access."
Students are being encouraged to let bodegas and other stores know they want healthier alternatives like hummus on the shelf instead of chips and candy.
