The coronavirus delta variant is sweeping the country and bringing deadly consequences with it, prompting the CDC to release new information about the variant and how it spreads.

The CDC says that this new delta variant of the coronavirus spreads as easily as the chickenpox. If you get infected with this new variant and you aren't vaccinated, you could be at risk of getting seriously sick. The CDC's report shows that the delta strain is one of the most transmissible viruses that health experts know about.

For example, if several passengers were riding on an MTA bus and one passenger had the original strain of COVID-19, that infected passenger would likely infect a second and third passenger.

But with this new delta variant, that passenger could easily spread the virus to eight other passengers, according to the CDC.

This new information supports the new guidance from the health agency that even vaccinated individuals should mask up when indoors in areas of high transmission.
