Heat Alert: How to help your dog battle the heat

There are easy tips to follow that will help prevent your dog from overheating, according to Anthony Gibney, a veterinarian at The Animal Hospital of Morris Park.
To prevent overheating, walk your pup in the mornings or evening, make sure they have water (and throw an ice cube in there), and make sure they have shade.

"Dogs, for instance, have very limited ability to lose heat. They'll sweat from their pads, and they release heat from panting," said Gibney.
Blacktop can be extremely dangerous for dogs. On an 85 degree day, the blacktop can heat up to 136 degrees.
