Six branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed for the next few days as a precaution against the extreme heat, upsetting many who were hoping to cool off at their local library.
A library spokesperson says the branches were closed to keep the old air conditioning systems from overheating. Patrons say they're upset with the closures, as libraries are often used as local cooling centers.
Others say book drops are now overflowing with books and other media, prompting them to toss returned items over the library gates to avoid late fees.
Most of the branches will remain closed through Saturday, when temperatures are expected to peak.
