Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire Sunday afternoon in Levittown.
Wantagh Fire Department officials say they received a call about a fire at 423 Holmes St. at around 2:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames throughout the home. During the process of putting the flames out, authorities say an explosion from inside the garage inflicted minor injuries on a firefighter.
Officials say that firefighter and another firefighter who sustained minor injuries at the scene were both transported to the hospital.
Witnesses describe seeing 8 fire departments fight the blaze using hoses and a bucket truck.
“When you see it in real life, it’s shocking. They were spraying it up in the house to put the flames out. You could see pieces of the roof being thrown up in the air,” said Paul O'Sullivan of Hartsdale.
The fire was under control by around 4 p.m., according to authorities.
Police have confirmed that no one was home at the time of the fire.
Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
