Following widespread national coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, hoodies have become a symbol of support in Brooklyn.
For residents across the borough, the hoodie has become a symbol of solidarity with the Florida teen and with others who have been unjustly frisked, or killed by police or others, community leaders say. Martin, 17, was wearing a hoodie when he was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watchman. Zimmerman has not been charged.
Business owners say the recent trend has resulted in an increase in purchases in their stores.
