A public safety officer at Hostos Community College has gone above and beyond his job description to help a baby and a father in distress.
Officer Raúl DeJesus was patrolling in front of the B building at Hostos Community College, located right next to the 149th Street and Grand Concourse subway station, when a man ran up to him and said there was a person with a baby "acting funny."
DeJesus rushed down the station stairs and asked the man to step off of the subway.
He then took the man and the baby upstairs and touched base with 911 and EMS along with his supervisor, eventually learning that the baby's mother had reported him missing - saying her domestic partner took him from his crib that morning.
DeJesus went to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln where the mother and baby were reunited.
Officers and sergeants at the community college tell News 12 their patrol and their mission extend beyond - into the local community.
