Hundreds of people gathered in East New York today to say goodbye to 6-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto, the boy who was fatally stabbed in an apartment elevator.
As News 12 has reported, the boy known as PJ by many was stabbed on Sunday, along with his 7-year-old friend, Mikayla Capers. Police have charged 27-year-old parolee Daniel St. Hubert in the heinous crimes, and are investigating whether he is linked to other recent stabbings in the area.
Spider-Man-themed floral arrangements were displayed by the boy's casket. Many wore white T-shirts with the boy's face on it.
The line for Avitto's viewing at St. Paul's Community Baptist Church wrapped around the block. Among the attendees was Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
St. Hubert is charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and a number of other charges.
Police say he had a number of prior arrests, including domestic abuse and assaulting a police and corrections officer. He was paroled on May 23, nine days before the children were attacked.
