It's almost time to fill up on Thanksgiving dinner, but before the oven gets preheated and the turkey defrosted, produce has to hit the shelves in the store.
Prep is underway for Thanksgiving dinners at Hunts Point Market with more activity than last year. Hunts Point Market is the largest wholesale produce market in the country with over one million square feet of space.
Tens of thousands of trucks deliver to the facility each day on a regular basis. Produce for Thanksgiving dinner is in high demand as the holiday nears.
Some of the challenges workers face this year are supply chain issues and labor shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In January, workers were on strike over better benefits and pay. Despite all the setbacks this year, it's non-stop work during the busiest time of the year.
