Bath Beach residents say they're fed up by commercial vehicles taking over their neighborhood.
They say 14th Avenue has been turned into a raceway of trucks and buses, with problems such as speeding and no parking.
“I live with multiple sclerosis and I find it very difficult to find a spot close enough to where I live and wind up parking blocks away,” says resident Jennifer King. “Having to walk when it's very difficult for me.”
A sign forbidding trucks from parking unless they're making local deliveries can be seen on the corner of the street. But many residents say it's a rule that is constantly broken.
“They just choose to come down this street and there's no enforcement,” says resident Carmela Gorizia.
The city's Department of Transportation says commercial vehicles can't park on residential streets between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Police say they are aware of the issue, and that they're working to address it.
A spokesperson for Councilman Justin Brannan says they're working on legislation that would increase penalties for commercial vehicles on residential streets and limit parking to 90 minutes.
