Industry City uses planters to stop illegal truck parking
A multipurpose complex in Sunset Park came up with a creative way to deal with trucks illegally parking in front of its property.
Industry City says oversized vehicles would sometimes spend days along the block, hindering the shops there.
Industry City officials decided to utilize planters at Second Avenue and 34th Street to stop the illegal parking.
Businesses like Gumption Coffee say the trucks were a safety concern since they couldn't see who would be coming in and pedestrians would have to walk into the street to look for oncoming traffic.
The community board president says for a long time they have received complaints from neighbors about the trucks.
"Really this is just what happens when you have too many trucks without viable places for them to go," says Jeremy Laufer.
The community board will hear Industry City's plan for the 39th Street planters on March 20. The board is expected to vote on the matter the same evening.
