Bronx native Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony stopped by P.S. 36 Tuesday to support students in the ING Run For Something Better program.
Lines formed outside the school and the auditorium was packed as onlookers waited for Lopez and Anthony to arrive. The duo took time out ahead of their tour, which starts Friday, to encourage students to live healthy lifestyles.
The singer and actress, who used to run track before becoming famous, said running changed her life. "It gave me discipline. It made me strong and ready for what I do now," Lopez said.
Principal Nilda Rivera said the celebrity visit will give students the extra push to reach their goals in the ING program.
During the school year, students will run more than 26 miles. Those who complete the program will get a medal.
ING officials said funds from ticket sales and donations during the program will go to schools with fitness programs.
