A car chase originating in New Jersey came to a crashing halt Friday evening in Brooklyn, sending a pedestrian and at least one police officer to the hospital.
According to police, the crash originated after a car that was stopped by Newark police struck the cruiser. The chase sped through Jersey City before crossing state lines through the Holland Tunnel. After entering Manhattan, the chase continued into Brooklyn over the Manhattan Bridge.
Police say the pursuit came to an end when the suspect headed the wrong way down Smith Street. The erratic driving and poor road conditions led to a crash into oncoming traffic. The pedestrian was struck at the crash location.
Police have arrested the driver, but it is not clear what charges he may face yet.
