The floodwaters left behind by heavy rain on Monday left a mess for some businesses along the Jersey Shore that have been forced to temporarily close - and deal with insurance to make up for lost product.

In Neptune City, Callie’s Creamery took on 13 inches of water during the storm. The main dipping cabinets, which hold their ice cream, were destroyed by rushing water. The flooring will also need to be replaced, and for now, the shop is closed.

It’s the same for a bookstore owner on 5th Avenue in Asbury Park. At Wolfe and Kron, rainwater from the roof soaked books resting on shelves. The business is closed until repairs are made.

At Callie's Creamery, owner Jay Vigilante says they will try to open as soon as possible. It is the busiest time of year for the business.

“Who knows how long we are closed for? It’s July, so it’s the worst possible time," said Vigilante.

Also, along Lake Avenue in Asbury Park, the water receded after rainwater overflowed the banks of Wesley Lake.

Business owners there said they suffered minor damage from the floodwaters.
