A new retail space called BKX is set to replace a Macy's that once stood on Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn.
The beloved Macy's closed its doors in March of 2025.
For shoppers like Delphine Parson, it wasn't just saying goodbye to a store, but also years of memories shopping there.
“Since 6, 8 years old. So that's 57 years. I'm 65 now. And so that's 57 years I've been going there, since I was a little girl," said Parson.
Since the closure, it's sat empty. Ikenna Warner says it's a noticeable void on busy Fulton Street.
“Put something else here, like a perfume store, food court, anything else so it don’t look dead like this. It’s sad that it’s gone now, but something better's going to come," said Warner.
Joshua Strauss, president of Dreamscape Retail and Entertainment, says construction is underway on BKX, a six-story retail and entertainment complex set to replace the Macy's.
"It will be full of fun, immersive experiences, food and beverage, retail, wellness, all under one roof, which is something New York hasn't seen in a very long time," said Strauss.
Many people tell News 12 the Macy's was a community staple. Strauss says the project will deliver to the community.
“People will come from all over the world to come see what we're putting on here," said Strauss.
Dreamscape Retail says more details on tenants and experiences are coming soon. The project is expected to open in late 2027 into 2028.
