For the first time since the pandemic, the annual Joanne Bell Memorial Walk is back and raising money for pancreatic cancer research.
Dozens of people spent the morning wearing purple shirts for the walk in Marine Park. Many of them wore signs with the names of loved ones they lost to the disease.
Greena Bell organized the event in honor of her mother, who passed away from the illness 10 years ago.
Current research suggests pancreatic cancer is usually uncurable unless caught during its early stages. Bell hopes the walk can help the effort to find better treatment options.
