Family desperately searches for decades-old 'lucky' necklace that allegedly went missing at 1 of 2 hospitals:  A family is desperately searching for a priceless necklace that they say went missing at one of two hospitals where he was treated. Pedro Rivera suffered a brain aneurysm in May and had surgery at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. He was transferred to Milstein Hospital in Manhattan, and that's when the family noticed it was missing.
Name change suggested for Rutgers due to namesake’s history as a slave owner: There are some people suggesting that Rutgers University change its name because it was named for Henry Rutgers, who was a slave owner. The issue was first brought up by the Scarlet and Black Project, which according to its website is a historical exploration of the experiences of African and Native Americans at the university. This comes as the topic of systemic racism in the United States comes into focus following the death of George Floyd. Students at the university also started a petition earlier this month calling for the school to rename three of its buildings named for slave owners and anti-abolitionists who were once presidents of Rutgers.
Residents left without power, property damage as a result of massive stormMonday evening's storm may have only lasted a short period of time, but it left days' worth of cleanup for many in South Brooklyn.Tree branches were down in Marine Park, with leaves and debris scattered everywhere. Cleanup crews were seen with their trucks trying to clear the roads. Neighbors tell News 12 they were plunged into darkness when the branches ripped through some power lines.
University of Bridgeport to be taken over by 3 other collegesThe financially struggling University of Bridgeport is being taken over by three other colleges, it was announced Tuesday. Sacred Heart University, Goodwin University in East Hartford and the Paier College of Art in Hamden will take over the campus, which has been around since 1927, as early as a year and a half from now. "This collaboration is not a salvage operation," says Sacred Heart University President Dr. John Petillo.
Shutterfly surprises young Long Island artists with Times Square billboard:Two children from Long Island are making a big difference for some essential workers. Kelli-Rose Simpson Forde, 7, of Elmont, and Xavier Garcia, 5, of Lindenhurst, both won a submission contest by Shutterfly about the COVID-19 pandemic. Their drawings are now in lights on a billboard in Times Square.
