Bailey Laundry in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx became engulfed in flames Friday evening, the FDNY says – leaving community members without a place to clean their clothes and a business owner at a loss for words.
"I don't know what to make of this," said Allison V, who did not provide her last name. "Something like this has never happened in this way. I've been here since 2010 so I'm confused and hoping to get answers as to what happened."
Community members are also looking for answers, expressing their shock and disappointment at the loss.
"It's a pretty unfortunate situation because there are not that many laundromats in this actual block, so this was pretty convenient for you when you get off the train and now it’s not accessible," says Mirna Jose. "But I'm happy that everybody's safe."
The FDNY tells News 12 that there were no reported injuries. Firefighters got the fire under control around 9:24 p.m. – however the first floor of the building, the basement and a nearby deli were damaged.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
