A Brooklyn dance studio gave residents of all backgrounds the chance to celebrate and learn about Kwanzaa on the second day of the holiday.
Dancer and author Iris Wilson hosted the event at the Center for African and Diaspora Dance on Fulton Street.
Attendees sang a traditional West African song in honor of Kujichagulia, the principle of self-determination, and danced a traditional harvest dance from Guinea, called Kasa.
Wilson hopes that residents will go into the New Year understanding the importance of Kwanzaa and carrying on its seven principles in their daily lives.
