Angellyh Yambo Foundation hosts first toy drive to honor life of slain teen
The Angellyh Yambo Foundation held a toy drive at the La Central YMCA in Melrose on Saturday in honor of the slain 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo.
Police say Yambo was walking home from school on April 8, 2022, when she got caught in the crossfire of a shooting and was struck by a bullet.
She was just blocks away from the school as the bullet from a ghost gun hit her in the chest, according to her family.
Following her death, 17-year-old Jerimah Ryan pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Yambo’s family has since set up the Angellyh Yambo Foundation in the hopes of preventing the loss of more innocent lives. It offers workshops, mentorship to children in school, along with arts and literacy programs.
