A 100-year-old historic landmark stable at 524 Halsey St. in Bed-Stuy has been transformed into 31 units of luxury condos that pay homage to the building's history.
The units have 12-foot ceilings left over from when horses called it home and feature wood decor and multifloor units that showcase the challenge and the fun of reworking a landmark space, says William Caleo, head of operations from developers Brooklyn Home Company.
"We wanted to preserve the original purpose of this space - stables for horses - and so when you walk in, you get a real sense of the past," Caleo said.
The site also features outdoor areas, with unique extensions from the original blueprint and an outdoor wall that serves as an extension of the building's facade, which developers had to preserve as part of the project.
"It was a wonderful, restoration moment that we could work with so we could create a nice outdoor dining area for this townhouse unit. To be able to be under a pergola on your roof deck is quite unique and special," Caleo said.
Caleo added that it was a priority for them to keep the original support beams visible and beautiful inside the units.
The site also features common and private outdoor areas for residents, a fully equipped gym and doorman, with art from local artists lining the walls of the lobby and even inside the units.
The cheapest unit still available inside the unit lists for around $2 million for those who have the cash to pony up for the unique space.
