Cleanup is underway to remove a large tree blocking part of Metcalf Avenue after it came toppling down today in Soundview Park as the New York city area is expecting rain and storms.
News 12’s Samantha Chaney was there when the tree fell and has more details on what happened.
Chaney says she was at Soundview Park to see how Bronxites were spending Memorial Day despite the rain. She said she suddenly heard a loud boom that sounded like a car had crashed.
When she walked out of the park, she saw a huge tree had fallen in the street and on top of two cars parked on Metcalf Avenue. Luckily, no one was walking directly under the tree at the time, but people were shocked by what they saw.
Within seconds, members of the New York City's Parks Department, ran over and started picking up branches and alerting a cleanup crew of the damage. The parks department taped off the area with caution tape.
