Many Brooklyn families will be ringing in the new year with sadness instead of celebration after a burst of violence left three people dead and six injured over the weekend.
The violence was spread out in several separate shootings, the first of which occurred Friday night in Brownsville. Three men who live in the Newport Garden Houses were approached and shot by a man. The victims survived, but all were seriously injured.
Hours later, early Saturday morning, another shooting occurred in the same area, this time leaving two men dead on Chester Avenue.
On Saturday night, three gunmen stormed the Cars on Utica dealership, located in the borough?s Flatlands section. In what police believe may have been a botched robbery, the owner of the dealership, Bobby Carnival, was shot to death. One of the robbers was also shot and injured.
Two more shootings occurred on Sunday. First, bullets flew in East Flatbush at the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 58th Street, injuring one person. Later, a 16-year-old was shot several times in the head in front of the Marcus Garvey Houses. The teen survived.
The violence comes just days after the police commissioner and mayor announced that violence in the city was down for the seventh year in a row.
Anyone with any information about any of the shootings is encouraged to call the police at 1-800-577-TIPS.
