One hundred Legal Aid attorneys walked out of Brooklyn Criminal Court on Wednesday to mark five months since the death of Eric Garner.
The lawyers stayed outside for seven minutes, signifying the amount of time Garner laid on the ground before anyone tried to help him. They hope their actions bring awareness to those who they say have been assaulted by police officers.
Protesters say there is a double standard when it comes to indicting people of color versus police in the justice system.
Legal Aid says it wanted to stage a die-in inside Brooklyn Criminal Court, but that the Office of Court Administration threatened to arrest everyone and revoke the attorneys' passes.
